Workshop Partnering at Tanzwerkstatt Munich

  • Tanzwerkstatt Munich Germany (map)

Alexander Vantournhout works artistically between circus and dance. His movement language is influenced by breaking through the boundaries of the varying art forms. Two constants within his artistic ventures are the search for creative and kinetic potential in physicality and an investigation into the many possibilities of the relationship between performer and object.

His class starts with a series of specific unconventional stretches. Thereafter it goes into the complexity of touching and dealing with another body (starting by manipulating ‚inert‘, ‚half-inert‘ and wired bodies). Different hand and wrist grips will be explored, as these are often the first points of contact.

Interaction with another body cannot take place without understanding, reflecting upon, predicting, improvising and more. Alexander proposes very specific situations in order to derive principles rather than forms. The class alters practice and repertory of his company not standing: first-time-tested material for future creations, borrowed exercises from martial arts (Judo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Tai Ki Kong) as well as Yoga, Icarian games and partner acrobatics.

This workshop is for participants with a professional background in sports, dance, circus or theatre. Alexander is teaching is class together with the dancer Emmi Väisänen.
