Sequenze
Coproduction of Bozar and Not Standing/Alexander Vantournhout
In Sequenze, a performance by Not Standing/Alexander Vantournhout and Bozar, five musicians and five dancers invite the audience on a journey through sound and movement. This immersive performance explores the surprising intersections between music and dance, opening new perspectives on the extraordinary work of Italian composer Luciano Berio.
Between 1958 and 2002, Italian composer Luciano Berio composed 14 groundbreaking Sequenze for solo instruments, in which he radically pushed the boundaries of virtuosity and expression. In each Sequenza, Berio develops a complex musical idea beyond mere technical mastery. Alexander Vantournhout selected five of them - for violin, voice, trombone, accordion and harp - and, together with four performers of Not Standing created a performance exploring the physical possibilities of Berio's music.
During a unique tour through Bozar, a fascinating dialogue emerges between Horta's iconic architecture, the musicians and the performers' acrobatic movements. Music, space and movement merge perfectly.
