Nimble

Nimble is Not Standing’s largest production to date. Together, nine dancers form a contemporary corps de ballet and explore the power of group rhythm. With a focus on the lower body, born of Alexander Vantournhout’s fascination with boxers’ footwork, Nimble shines a spotlight on what normally escapes attention. 

In Nimble, the performers take over a  large stage and investigate how space can become an added dimension. How does a collective body of nine individuals evolve in that space? The dancers keep moving, constantly exchanging rhythms and shifting between the collective and the individual.

The soundtrack is created live by the performers themselves. Movements culminate in a soundscape of beats, polyrhythms, loops, and vibrant electronics that  blur the line between dancer and musician. Nimble unfolds as a pulsating choreography in which movement and music propel each other and transform the stage into a single, collective, physical rhythm.
