Caprices

Caprices is a physical interpretation of the music of Salvatore Sciarrino. Its particular sounds finds its counterpart in the powerful language of movement that Alexander Vantournhout has developed as a dancer and acrobat. As meticulous as Bach’s fugues, his composition transcends the genres of circus and dance. Befriending danger as well as virtuosity, timelessness and alienation, he unexpectedly alternates from extreme exuberance to ironic minimalism – equally whimsical as the music. Nevertheless, we bet you will return home with a familiar tune!

… The shrill sound of a violin fills the space. Vantournhout pulls his single wheel on stage. We witness an exploration between the dancer and his partner: the single wheel. They repel and attract each other to a soundscape at times penetrating.
